This is on Facebook, but I thought I'd throw it on here too. It's one of the first things I've 'written,' and maybe my favorite. So....
"Conditional Consistancy"
We humans think we're pretty bold,
But when the time comes and we hold
the opportunity to change a life of sin,
We freeze and tremble from within.
Our words were loud but our witness was soft,
We tried to speak out, but instead we coughed,
For fear that our image would be mocked,
And another opportunity slipped away...
Chorus:
The more I look, the more I see,
It all comes clearly now to me,
That the only thing consistent is our inconsistencies....
Conditional consistency
It seems we have a casual resistance,
And a seeming growing hard persistence,
Away from our Saviour towards our death,
We shun our Creator's life-giving breath.
We can see the speck in another's eye,
But all to often we hardly even try,
To rid ourselves of our obvious flaws,
To take our burdens to Jesus' cross..
Chorus
Bridge:
Maybe we're like the Pharisees; a "white-washed tomb,"
If in our hardened hearts we have no room,
For the very One who gives us life each day,
A humble prayer of confession I make today:
I am guilty...Of conditional consistency!
